Along with an oil change and inspection, my van needed a lube job. I was told they didn’t have full synthetic oil, so I brought my own. This is quite unusual but I didn’t think anything of it at the time. However, with many cars on the road requiring full synthetic oil, I wonder what kind of mechanic would have no bulk synthetic oil on hand. When I saw my bill, I found I was charged $7.00 for “hazardous materials” and $7.00 for “Shop supplies.” When I complained, one of the owners told me that the first charge was to dispose of the 4 litres of used oil and the second was for things like shop towels and grease. I asked if they had done the lube job on my van and apparently they hadn’t, so they didn’t use any grease at all. $7.00 is a lot of money for shop towels and fluid top-up! She told me if I...
